How to use Sabster File Sharing

Choose a topic below. Follow the steps, then use Back to contents to pick another topic.

1. What does this website do?

Think of a transfer as a box. You put files in the box, give the box a name, and choose how long people may open it. You send a link to the box instead of attaching all the files to an email.

You can share large files and whole folders, choose an expiry, save contacts, see activity from personalized links, and give an expired transfer more time without uploading again.

2. Find your way around

Open https://filesharing.sabster.hu.

On a computer, the logo and navigation stay at the top while you scroll. On a phone, tap the menu button with three horizontal lines to open the navigation.

After signing in, open the menu beside your name. On a computer you can hover over your name or click it. On a phone, use the menu button. You will find New transfer, My transfers, Contacts, Edit profile, and Sign out.

3. Choose English or Hungarian

  1. Find EN / HU near the top of the page.
  2. Click EN for English or HU for Hungarian.
  3. Continue using the website in that language.

English is the default. Your chosen language is remembered in that browser for up to 180 days. A different browser or private window may use the default again. The website does not choose a language from your country.

Email language is a separate rule: addresses ending in .hu receive Hungarian emails. All other addresses receive English emails. For example, anna@example.hu receives Hungarian, while anna@gmail.com receives English—even if Anna uses the Hungarian website.

The button in the email containing a general sharing link always says Download, including in Hungarian emails.

4. Create your account

You need an account to upload files. People downloading your files do not need one.

  1. Click Register.
  2. Enter your name.
  3. Enter an email address you can open.
  4. Choose a password with at least 6 characters. A longer password is a good idea.
  5. Click Create account.
  6. Open your email inbox. Check the spam or junk folder if needed.
  7. Open the verification email and click its verification button.
  8. Return to the website and sign in.

The first verification link lasts 24 hours. If it expires, use Forgot password? with the same email address. For an unverified account, this sends another verification email.

5. Sign in, sign out, or reset your password

  1. Click Login.
  2. Enter your account email and password.
  3. Click Sign in.

Sign out

  1. Open the menu beside your name, or the mobile menu.
  2. Click Sign out.

Forgotten password

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot password?.
  2. Enter your account email.
  3. Click Send reset link.
  4. Open the newest email and follow its link.
  5. Enter a new password and click Save password.
  6. Sign in with the new password.

The reset link lasts one hour. If you request another one, use the newest email. The website gives a general confirmation message without revealing whether an address has an account.

6. Decide how to share

There are two choices. You may use either one, or both on the same transfer.

Personalized recipient links

Enter the recipients’ email addresses. Each person receives their own link by email.

Choose this when you want to see which recipient’s link was used. Completed downloads can trigger an email notification to you. Recipients who have not completed a download can receive an expiry reminder.

Example: Add Anna and Peter. Anna gets one link. Peter gets a different link.

General sharing link

Select Create a general sharing link. You get one link to copy into an email, chat, or another message.

Anyone with that link can open the download page and download files. They do not enter a name or email address, and they do not sign in.

Example: You want to put a link in a group chat without entering everybody’s email. Use a general link.

7. Create a new transfer

Step A — Choose your files

  1. Sign in and open New transfer.
  2. Click Add files to select individual files. You can select several at once.
  3. Or click Add folder to select a folder and its contents.
  4. You can also drag files or folders from your device into the upload area, if your browser supports this.
  5. Check the file list. Use Remove beside an unwanted file before starting the upload.

Folders inside other folders are included. The ZIP download keeps that folder structure.

Step B — Give the transfer a name

  1. Find Sharing title.
  2. Enter a short, useful name, such as “Holiday photos” or “Project drawings.”

This is the name you and your recipients will see. Keep it short; very long titles may be rejected.

Step C — Choose who can download

For personalized links, type email addresses into Recipients. Separate them with commas or new lines. You can also select saved contacts, as explained below.

For a general link, tick Create a general sharing link. You may leave Recipients empty or add recipients as well.

If you want to save newly entered addresses, tick Save new recipients to my contacts before starting.

Step D — Choose the expiry

  1. Find Link expires after.
  2. Choose 1 to 30 days. The initial selection is 5 days.

The countdown starts when the upload finishes, not when you first select the files.

Step E — Upload

  1. Click Upload & send links ↗.
  2. Keep the page open and your device connected to the internet.
  3. Watch the progress indicators.
  4. Wait until the upload finishes and the transfer details open.

Personalized links are emailed to the recipients you entered. If you chose a general link, it becomes available in My transfers, and a copy is queued for your account email.

Include a message

Before uploading, use the optional Message in English and Message in Hungarian fields to add instructions or a comment (up to 5000 characters each). Emails to addresses ending in .hu use the Hungarian version; other addresses use English. If you fill in only one field, everyone receives that version. Text is not translated automatically.

The message is saved with the transfer. It appears in invitation emails, including emails to recipients added later and reactivation emails, and on the download page. Anyone with a general link can also see the message. Check both versions before uploading.

8. File size limits and upload progress

The maximum download package is 10 GB, meaning 10 billion bytes, including the small amount of space used to package the ZIP. Leave a little room below the limit. Some size displays may show about 9.3 GB for the same limit because they calculate units differently.

You can include up to 10,000 files and up to 50 personalized recipient addresses in one transfer. Your account may also have a total storage allowance.

If a transfer is too large, make two smaller transfers. You do not need to make your own ZIP first: the site can package the files for downloading.

The upload progress shows transfer to the FTP storage server. Confirmed on FTP means the storage server has confirmed those bytes. The current-file indicator may move before the confirmed total increases.

Think of it like delivering a box: “sent” means it is on its way; “confirmed” means the storage server has acknowledged it.

If the screen says it is waiting for confirmation, give it time. Do not close the page just because one progress bar looks finished.

9. Continue an interrupted upload

If your internet connection stops, the already confirmed parts can be reused.

  1. If the upload page is still open, use Retry upload when offered.
  2. To continue later, sign in and open My transfers.
  3. Select the unfinished transfer.
  4. Click Resume this upload.
  5. Select the original files or folders again.
  6. Click Resume selected upload.

Use exactly the same files, folder paths, and sizes. Do not rename or edit them between attempts. The site checks parts that were already uploaded and skips them when they match.

Unfinished uploads are not kept forever: abandoned uploads are normally eligible for cleanup after 48 hours without an update. Resume as soon as you can.

10. Save and use contacts

Contacts are your private address book. Other users cannot see your saved contacts. Saving a contact does not send that person an email.

Add a contact

  1. Open Contacts from your account menu.
  2. Enter a name if you want. The name is optional.
  3. Enter the email address.
  4. Click Save contact.

Find, edit, or delete a contact

  1. Use Search contacts to find a name or address.
  2. Click Edit to change the contact, then save.
  3. Click Delete to remove it from your address book.

Deleting a contact does not cancel a link you already sent. Use the transfer’s expiry controls to stop downloads.

Use contacts in a transfer

  1. On New transfer, start typing a name or email in Find a saved contact.
  2. Click a matching suggestion to add it.
  3. Or click Choose contacts, select several people, then click Add selected.
  4. Check the Recipients box before uploading.

Suggestions may also appear while you type recipient addresses. Save new recipients to my contacts saves new addresses when the transfer is created. Existing contacts are not added again.

11. Find your transfers and inspect them

  1. Open My transfers.
  2. Find the transfer by its title.
  3. Click its title or View activity.
  4. Scroll to its details if needed.

You can see its state, size, creation time, expiry time, file list, personalized recipients, and download activity. Use Previous or Next if your list has several pages.

Times are shown in Budapest time, including the automatic summer/winter time change.

Common states:

Add someone after sending

  1. Open My transfers and select the transfer.
  2. Find Add recipients.
  3. Enter the new email addresses, separated by commas or new lines. Or use Find a saved contact for suggestions and Choose contacts to select several saved contacts, then click Add selected.
  4. To remember newly added addresses, tick Save new recipients to my contacts. Leave it unticked if you do not want to save them. Existing contacts and their names are kept.
  5. Click Add recipients & send links.

Each new recipient receives a personal, tracked link and the saved message. Existing recipients do not receive another email, and their links stay the same. Duplicate addresses are skipped. The transfer keeps its original expiry date and recipient limit. If it has expired, reactivate it first within the 15-day grace period.

Click a transfer to open its own details page. Use ← Back to My transfers to return to the list.

12. Copy or email your general link

Copy the link

  1. Open the transfer in My transfers.
  2. Find General sharing link.
  3. Click Copy link.
  4. Open your email or chat, then paste the link into your message.

If automatic copying is unavailable, select the address in the link field and copy it manually.

Add a general link to an existing transfer

  1. Open a completed transfer in My transfers.
  2. Click Create a general sharing link.
  3. Copy the new link. If the transfer is active, a copy is also queued to your account email.

An expired transfer must be reactivated before people can use the link.

Get the link by email

  1. Open an active transfer that has a general link.
  2. Click Email this link to me.
  3. Open the email sent to your account address.
  4. Use the Sabster Download button to open the download page, or copy the written link below it.

The button opens a page where you choose what to download; it does not automatically download every file. You can copy the general link from the email or forward that general-link email to someone else.

A general-link email is also sent after the upload finishes and after reactivation. Manual email requests are limited to five per account per hour. “Queued” means waiting for sending, not guaranteed delivery to the inbox.

↑ Back to contents

13. Download files sent to you

You do not need a Sabster account to download through a valid sharing link.

  1. Open the link or button you received.
  2. Read the transfer title and expiry date.
  3. To get one file, click Download ↓ beside it.
  4. To get everything, click Download everything (.zip) ↓.
  5. Wait for your browser’s download to finish.
  6. Look in your device’s Downloads folder, or the folder you chose.

To open a ZIP on Windows, right-click it and choose Extract All. On a Mac, double-click the ZIP. On phones, use the device’s Files app; the exact controls vary.

Keep the download page open if you still need more files. If a link has expired, ask the sender to reactivate it if the files are still within the reactivation window.

↑ Back to contents

14. Download your own uploaded files

  1. Sign in and open My transfers.
  2. Select the transfer.
  3. Find Files in this transfer.
  4. Click Download ↓ beside one file, or Download all (.zip) ↓.

Your own downloads from this page do not count as recipient downloads and do not send recipient download notifications.

You can still download retained files after expiry, until deletion begins. This does not give you extra time to reactivate after the 15-day deadline.

↑ Back to contents

15. Understand download activity

For personalized links, open the transfer’s Download activity section.

It shows the recipient link used, the file or ZIP requested, start and finish times, download state.

The site tracks which link was used, not a person’s identity. If Anna forwards her personalized link to Peter, Peter’s download is still listed under Anna’s link.

General-link downloads do not appear here and do not mark any named recipient as having downloaded.

↑ Back to contents

16. Automatic emails and reminders

For reminders, one completed download—even one individual file—counts as a completed download. It does not mean the recipient downloaded every file. Downloading through the general link does not stop reminders for a separate personalized link.

Some emails are processed in the background. They may take a few minutes, and delivery delays can happen. The email language follows the .hu rule described earlier.

You receive a confirmation email once the mail service accepts all recipient invitations from that action. This also applies when adding recipients later or reactivating a transfer. The confirmation lists the recipients and expiry; it does not confirm inbox delivery or reading.

↑ Back to contents

17. Expiry, the 15-day grace period, and reactivation

Expiry means the sharing links stop allowing new downloads. It does not mean the files disappear immediately.

After each expiry:

  1. Personalized and general sharing links stop allowing new downloads.
  2. The files are retained for a 15-day reactivation window.
  3. During that window, you can reactivate the transfer.
  4. Once the window ends, reactivation is no longer available.
  5. The daily cleanup deletes the files. Deletion can happen later than the deadline because cleanup runs on a schedule; active downloads can also delay it.

Reactivate a transfer

  1. Sign in and open My transfers.
  2. Select the expired transfer.
  3. Check the Reactivate before date.
  4. Click Reactivate for … days before that deadline.

The transfer gets its original duration, starting from reactivation. Its existing links work again. You do not upload the files again or choose a different duration during reactivation.

Example: You originally chose 5 days. The transfer expires. You reactivate it during the next 15 days. It becomes available for another 5 days. When those 5 days end, a new 15-day reactivation window begins.

This cycle can repeat while you reactivate within each window. Once the files are deleted, you need to create a new transfer from your own copies.

↑ Back to contents

18. Stop sharing early

  1. Open the active transfer in My transfers.
  2. Click Expire now.

This stops new downloads through all personalized and general links for that transfer. Downloads already in progress may finish. The 15-day reactivation window starts at this early expiry.

Expire now is not immediate permanent deletion. Files remain for the grace period and are then deleted by cleanup if you do not reactivate. Files that somebody already downloaded cannot be removed from their device by expiring a link.

19. Change your profile or password

  1. Open Edit profile from your account menu.
  2. To change your name, enter the new name and click Save profile.
  3. To change your password, enter your current password, then the new password twice.
  4. Click Change password.

The new password needs at least 6 characters. Other signed-in sessions are signed out after a password change. Your account email is shown as read-only; this page does not let you change it.

↑ Back to contents

20. Ask Sabster for help

  1. Open Contact.
  2. Enter your name and email address.
  3. Add a short subject.
  4. Write your message.
  5. Click Send message →.

The message goes to admin@sabster.hu. An acknowledgement email is queued after the message to the administrator is successfully submitted. The acknowledgement says your enquiry will be answered shortly; it is not an instant support reply.

For a problem, include the transfer title, what you clicked, and the error message. Do not include your password or someone’s private download link.

21. Cookie notice

The website uses necessary cookies for signing in, form security, and your selected language. It does not use analytics or advertising cookies in the application.

Click Understood to close the notice. This does not enable tracking. Use Cookie information to read more. Blocking the session cookie may stop sign-in and forms from working. Clearing cookies may forget your chosen language and show the notice again.

23. Two quick examples

“Send photos to Grandma and know when her link was used”

  1. New transfer → Add folder → choose the photos.
  2. Title: “Family photos.”
  3. Enter Grandma’s email under Recipients.
  4. Choose 5 days → Upload & send links.
  5. Grandma opens her email link and downloads.
  6. Look at My transfers for her link’s activity.

“Put a download link in a group chat”

  1. New transfer → select files → add a title.
  2. Tick Create a general sharing link.
  3. Leave Recipients empty if you do not need personalized links.
  4. Choose the expiry → upload.
  5. Open My transfers → Copy link → paste it into the chat.
  6. People download without entering personal details. You will not see who downloaded through that link.

Keep your original files somewhere safe. Sabster File Sharing is for temporary sharing, not permanent storage.
